It's 1965. The upheavals of the decade (complete with political, musical, & social cataclysms) have just begun to boil over. Classes have just begun for eight college students who live together in an attic apartment, grappling with uncertainties the draft poses on their lives, surprise encounters with people in the neighborhood, and what to do with their growing stash of milk bottles. By interweaving the personal stories of each roommate into day-to-day comedic moments, Moonchildren encapsulates the feelings of many American students at the time: a mixture of growing contempt with the escalating war in Vietnam, the desire to remain “relevant,” the backlash against traditional societal norms of “marriage and motherhood,” and grades.
